NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting in the Lower Ninth Ward that left one man dead and five other people injured.
Police say the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Forstall Street and Burgundy Street.
According to police, there was a very large crowd gathered in the area when shots rang out. Officers who were in the area at the time of the shooting arrived to the scene and found multiple victims outside suffering from gunshot wounds.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other five victims were transported to local hospitals where their conditions are currently unknown.
Police say they currently have a person of interest in custody.
Investigators are working to determine a suspect or motive in the shooting.
