Deputies: Man had 'grave intentions' before officers killed him during domestic dispute

HICKORY, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's detectives say the man who died during a domestic hostage situation had "grave intentions" when he went to the home of his ex-girlfriend Saturday night.

Deputies were called to the 37000 block of Holifield Ln. in Hickory shortly before 10:00 p.m. in response to a report of a man who had forced entry into the home, was shooting a gun inside the residence and holding a woman hostage.

When deputies arrived, the suspect exited the residence with the gun, and despite deputies' commands to drop the weapon, pointed it at deputies.

In response, deputies fired at the suspect, who then quickly re-entered the residence.

Deputies entered the home and located 55-year-old Eddy Longoria lying on the floor of the residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

At that time, deputies escorted the uninjured woman out of the residence and secured the scene. EMS personnel then began to render aid to Longoria; however, he died.

After speaking to witnesses, detectives know that prior to deputies' arrival; Longoria had held both the ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend at gunpoint inside the home and had shot at boyfriend as he fled the residence.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and detectives are awaiting ballistic results on the guns fired at the scene, including the gun that was in Longoria's possession and all bullets recovered.

The deputies involved have been placed on temporary administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
