NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police Department Fifth District Officer James Roberson had only hours earlier been part of a training held by New Orleans EMS for officers who volunteered to learn how to deploy naloxone, known commonly as Narcan.
Narcan helps block the effects of opioids, particularly in overdose situations.
According to NOPD, while en route to respond to an unrelated call, his newfound knowledge was put to the test when a citizen flagged him down.
When he and his partner pulled over, the citizen requesting help for a friend who was overdosing on heroin.
Roberson administered Narcan and saved the person's life.
