NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire in the Gentilly area Saturday night.
The New Orleans Fire Department says the fire started around 8:45 p.m. in the 4900 block of Lafaye Street.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story duplex. Firefighters were able to quickly enter the unit, extinguish the fire and contain the fire damage to just the kitchen.
Firefighters later spoke to the resident who said that she was cooking food on the stove when she lost track of time. By the time she made it to the kitchen, the fire was already out of control.
Though the downstairs unit of the duplex was not directly affected by the fire, the unit sustained smoke and water damage.
There were no injuries reported in the fire.
Firefighters say unfortunately the home is not currently livable due to the damage to the home.
