AMITE, LA (WVUE) - The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department has opened an investigation after skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded are in Amite.
According to police, a hunter made the discovery and notified authorities around 10 a.m. Monday.
Investigators believe the remains are of a middle-aged man, even though the remains have not been positively identified nor has the cause of death been determined. The LSU F.A.C.E.S. Laboratory will analyze the remains for proper identification.
In addition to the members of the F.A.C.E.S lab, members of the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office and Amite City Police Department are assisting in the investigation.
