ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A grand jury indicted the man accused of killing his ex-wife with an ax in St. Bernard Parish.

Mark Owens was indicted on first-degree murder charges for the killing of 48-year-old Kim Owens Tuesday morning.

The victim's family left the courthouse crying after Mark was indicted. It was back in September when he was accused of hiding under a house in Chalmette.

Police say when Kim attempted to leave for work, Mark confronted her and killed her with an ax.

She suffered multiple lacerations and died on the scene.

The two had previously been married and there was a history of domestic violence, according to police.

Mark has been arrested in the past for allegedly dragging Kim into a home and holding her hostage.

Police say Mark also threatened suicide and accused Kim of having an affair. She worked for businessman Sidney Torres when she was killed, and leaves behind a son and step daughter.

Mark's arraignment has been set for next Tuesday.
