NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Members of the New Orleans Saints and the YMCA took part in a turkey giveaway, providing turkeys and canned goods to the less fortunate in New Orleans.
Thousands lined up, Tuesday, outside the Dryades YMCA and gave the team a roaring ovation as they made their way inside the gymnasium. About a minute later, they crowd got even louder as quarterback Drew Brees and his family walked in.
The event is part of the Saints and the YMCA getting together and helping out the less-fortunate around the community. The Saints say this is something that they enjoy doing every year.
"Just to help out this community, service out Thanksgiving meals. It's really exciting to be able to do this every year and bring the family as well bring the boys to be able to share this," said Brees.
"Every time I talk to somebody, it's all about winning," said receiver Michael Thomas. "You know...keep winning, beat this team, beat that team. That's the same mindset that we have in the week when we are preparing. It's like everybody in the city is all in it. It makes you want to come out here and go hard and get to the Super Bowl."
The line outside the gymnasium was wrapped around the building with people trying to be a part of this giveaway. Just to give you some perspective on what the Saints are doing. Tuesday is the only off day the Saints get so the guys that came out did so on their own time.
