(WVUE) - It's been 56 long years, but De La Salle is finally going back to the state title game. Cavalier quarterback Julien Gums' 131 yards rushing and three touchdowns assisted in De La Salle's 28-14 victory over St. Thomas More.
DLS has never won a state title in football. They lost in their only state title appearance to Istrouma 20-7 in 1961. The Cavaliers will face University High in the Superdome, December 8th at 3:30 p.m.
"I'm so proud of my kids," De La Salle coach Ryan Manale told Nola.com/Times-Picayune. "All year, we've been great securing the football, but tonight, we weren't. Credit St. Thomas More because they do a great job of ripping it out. We put our defense in some bad spots, but they came through. It means everything (to get to the state championship)."
