METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - A Metairie man and towing company owner was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly hit a woman with his tow truck, according to a Kenner Police press release.
Lee "Big Lee" Martin, 53, of Bonnabel Boulevard, faces a charge of aggravated battery.
On Nov. 19 about 6:15 p.m., the Kenner Police Department investigated a disturbance at 176 W. Airline Drive involving Martin and a 44-year-old female, who claimed that Martin intentionally struck her with his tow truck.
Martin claimed he was visiting a friend at a trailer park, when he heard a disturbance outside. Martin said he exited his friend's trailer to find an intoxicated woman complaining about where he had parked his truck. Martin said he apologized and tried to leave when the woman placed her hands on the back of the truck. Martin said he exited his truck and asked the woman to move. The female did, and Martin backed out. Martin said as he was leaving, he was flagged down and told he had hit the woman with his truck, which he denied.
On Nov. 22, the victim went to the Kenner Police Department to amend the original police report and turn over video taken at the time of the incident. The victim's account is that she walked out of her trailer Nov. 19 and saw a man, later identified as Martin, standing next to a tow truck. Figuring he was the owner, the victim asked if he could move the vehicle. The victim said Martin did not move, and after continuously asking she grabbed her cell phone and began taking pictures of the tow truck. She said Martin then began to shine a flashlight in her eyes and backed the truck up but didn't hit her. She told police that Martin then pulled forward, put the truck in reverse again and then backed up and struck her in the legs.
After reviewing the video, an arrest warrant was obtained for Martin, who was located Tuesday in the 1000 block of Veterans Boulevard.
At the time of the press release, Martin remained in custody and no bond had been set.
Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser urges anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Kenner Police Officer Eric Hill at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
