The New Orleans Fire Department battled a two-alarm fire in Central City Thursday morning.

NOFD responded to the fire around 7:44 a.m. at 2416/18 Jackson Ave. near S. Robertson St.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy black smoke and fire coming from the roof line of a single story, wood-framed shotgun double home that appeared to be under renovation.

According to the report, firefighters conducted a primary search of both units for possible persons trapped.

Another crew of firefighters set up water streams to protect nearby homes from the heat, smoke and fire.

Firefighters determined that blaze started in the center of the home. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, according to the report.

Fourteen NOFD units carrying 38 firefighters responded to this incident.

NOFD said the fire was under control just before 8:27 a.m.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The New Orleans Police Department, Entergy and New Orleans Emergency Medical Services responded to this incident.
