NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The Troy Trojans and North Texas Mean Green have accepted their invitations, Sunday, to play in the 2017 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. The game will take place Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for noon.

“The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Committee, staff and volunteers are delighted to welcome back Troy University and the University of North Texas to New Orleans,” said R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Chairman Sheriff Paul Valteau. “We look forward to celebrating a spectacular week of bowl activities with both universities’ coaches, student-athletes, alumni and fans.”

Troy (10-2, 7-1), who finished its regular season as Sun Belt Conference co-champions, will be making its fourth appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. North Texas (9-4, 7-1), won the West Division of Conference USA. The game will be the fifth appearance for the Mean Green in the R+L Carriers New Orleans bowl.

“The New Orleans Bowl is a great destination for our fans and players to celebrate an outstanding season,” said Troy University Head Coach Neal Brown. “I know our players are excited about playing in this bowl game, and we are looking forward to a great week experiencing the culture of New Orleans. This is a bowl game that our fans have circled every year and we’re looking forward to seeing a strong Trojan presence in New Orleans.”

We are honored to be invited to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl,” said University of North Texas Head Coach Seth Littrell. “I have heard so many stories about how great the New Orleans Bowl experience was from our fans, staff and former players who were there from 2001- 2004. New Orleans is a great destination that is easy for our fans to travel to. I’m confident this experience will be memorable for everyone around the Mean Green football program.”

I usually leave a Saints game with an overall theme or feeling about what I just observed on the field. It typically jumps out at me right away and this column is written. But after Sunday I was left with kind of a blah emotion. Their effort against the Jets was kind of weird. It certainly wasn’t an overly impressive victory to celebrate, but nonetheless, a win in the NFL by double digits is nothing they have to apologize for. Dodging a bullet may be the more accurate descript...

Welcome in to Juan's World and as you know, this blog that I do is strictly an opinion piece with a few facts sprinkled in here and there. So, with that in mind, I'm under the opinion that the Saints should've been 'expected' to look past the Jets to next weeks rematch with the Falcons. How could they not look ahead to Atlanta coming to the dome next Sunday. And before you go all 'One Game at a Time' on me, think for a second. You're supposed to beat the Jets, who came in 5-8 and wi...
