NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An extended period of wet and very cold weather will continue. More cold rain is likely into Thursday with temperatures remaining in the 40s.
An area of low pressure will move across the Gulf of Mexico on Friday and Chief Meteorologist David Bernard says the rain could change over to snow late Thursday night into Friday morning. The best chances will be on the North Shore. He says it's not entirely impossible that some snow could be seen mixing with rain south of the lake.
It's too early to say if there will be any accumulations and the snow of course may not even materialize.
Multiple days of freezing morning temperatures are expected north and west of the lake. A hard freeze is possible on Saturday morning for the North Shore. South of the lake temperatures may approach freezing in the metro area. Stay tuned for what freeze precautions to take in the coming days.
