NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

An area of low pressure is moving across the Gulf of Mexico today as a cold front comes down from our north. This combination is allowing for rain to change over to snow north of Lake Pontchartrain. Some accumulation of an inch or two will be possible in grassy areas or elevated areas.

There is also the potential for some flakes to fall in the River Parishes. We are expecting mostly cold rain on the South Shore at this time, but a few flakes are not totally out of the question.

Multiple days of freezing morning temperatures are expected north and west of the Lake Saturday-Monday mornings. A hard freeze is likely on Saturday morning for north of the lake. South of the lake temperatures may approach freezing in the metro area. Stay tuned for what freeze precautions to take in the coming days.
