NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Edna Karr lived up to all of the expectations as they exploded in the second half for a 48-26 victory over Lakeshore. The win makes it back-to-back Class 4A titles for the Cougars.
The scoring came early and often. Skylar Perry went up top to Anthony Spurlock for the first touchdown of the game and a 7-0 Karr lead. But on the ensuing kickoff, the Titans sent the message that they came to play. Jacob Bernard took the return 83 yards to the house to tie the game up at seven.
From there, Karr had to survive their own mistakes. Two Cougars fumbles only resulted in three points for Lakeshore, and Karr quickly made up for their mistakes with a Ronnie Jackson touchdown run early in the second quarter to make it 14-10, Cougars. Just minutes later, "Action" Jackson would find the endzone again to make it 21-10.
Still, the Titans weren't going anywhere in the first half. Chris Penton, who never had much time to throw, managed to get a long ball behind the defense to Bernard to get them within four points again. But after a Skylar Perry touchdown run, the Cougars found themselves with a 28-20 lead at halftime.
The second half was all Karr all the time. They came out flexing their might on the ground, as Jackson punched it into the endzone again for a 34-20 lead. By the end of the quarter, Jackson would have another to make it 41-20, and the Cougars never looked back from there.
Karr's defense aided in the victory with 10 sacks on the day and only gave up six points in the second half to Lakeshore.
It's the first time in Karr's history that they've won back-to-back state titles.
