While it was Hahnville on the scoreboard first, the Broncos proved to be too much to handle as they quickly rallied to defeat the Tigers, 34-14.
It was none other than Anthony “Pooka” Williams getting the Tigers going with a 26-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 in the first. But Zachary exploded in the second quarter.
Darweshi Sanders’ touchdown made it a 7-6 game after the Broncos failed to convert the extra point. Then just minutes later, they were at it again via sophomore quarterback Keilon Brown. The heir to Lindsey Scott Jr.’s Zachary legacy took off down the sideline for an 80-yard touchdown give Zachary a 13-7 lead.
Then they went right back to Sanders. A 37-yard carry up the middle for six extended Zachary’s lead to 13 points.
Just when it looked like Hahnville might respond before halftime, a costly Pooka Williams turnover in Zachary territory led to another Broncos touchdown when Brown found receiver Trea Shropshire for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Zachary’s 27 unanswered points gave them a 27-7 lead going into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Hahnville finally found some life again when Jha’Quan Jackson scored on a short touchdown run to make it a two score game again, 27-14. But Jackson, too, fumbled at the worst time a few minutes later. Zachary’s Chris Hart came through with the scoop and score to make it 34-14 and deliver the dagger.
