NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - An inmate has died at The Orleans Justice Center this week, according to a news release issued by The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.
The 41-year-old inmate was housed on the medical unit where he was on a detoxification protocol for opiates, according to the report.
The inmate, who was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on Wednesday, was found in distress early Friday morning by the deputy on duty.
Emergency medical services attempted lifesaving treatment, but were unsuccessful, according to the report.
The inmate's name is being withheld at this time.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office is expected to conduct an autopsy and prepare a toxicology report.
