NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Plans take shape tonight to move an entire Terrebonne Parish community.
According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, Louisiana's Office of Community Development expects to finalize a plan to move dozens of people on Isle de Jean Charles to 515 acres of farmland about 40 miles north of the island.
Isle de Jean Charles has been rapidly sinking for years. It's unclear how may people who live there will move to the new site.
Once current and former residents are settled, the community might be opened up to other climate refugees on Louisiana's sinking coast.
