NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - An Orleans Parish Sheriff's deputy has been arrested on multiple charges after she admitted to smuggling drugs into the Orleans Parish Jail.
According to police, deputy Oshen Heilman admitted to smuggling a package of contraband into the Orleans Justice Center. She said that she was paid $500 to deliver the drugs. Heilman added that on three separate occasions, she brought narcotics in the jail and gave them to an inmate who she was romantically involved with.
Heilman was booked with five counts of introducing contraband into a penal institution, five counts of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, three counts of sexual battery, one count of conspiracy to introduce contraband and nine counts of malfeasance in office.
An OPSO spokesperson says that Heilman has been fired from her job with the OPSO.
The investigation into the matter continues. Additional charges against the inmates are pending.
