ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Boil Water Advisory is in effect parish wide for St. John Parish due to little to no water pressure.
Residents of St. John Parish are urged to stop water usage until further notice, according to the parish's website.
Businesses and homeowners with back flow preventers are being urged to monitor them regularly for leaks.
When water pressure is fully restored, residents are asked to boil for one minute before eating or drinking.
Showering and bathing is not affected, and residents will be notified when the Boil Water is lifted.
Water systems are anticipated to be caught up overnight, but residents are urged to continue to conserve water as much as possible.
Due to the combination of over 100 isolated leaks, dripping faucets and excessive water use, systems are taxed and are not producing as much water as being used. Residents are asked to use a dripping faucet as a last resort for freeze precautions. Heat pipes that are exposed should also be protected.
