NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The James Beard Foundation has honored Dong Phuong, a Vietnamese bakery in eastern New Orleans with its America's Classics award.
"The award is given to restaurants that have made a meaningful and last impact on their communities. Dong Phuong exemplifies how thoroughly the Vietnamese community has become a vital part of the local culinary landscape," a statement from the James Beard Foundation said.
Dong Phuong isn't the first New Orleans area eateries to be honored with the award. Mosca's, Willie Mae's Scotch House and Hansen's Sno-Bliz have also received the award.
The other America's Classic winners for 2018 are Sun Wah in Chicago, Galleria Umberto in Boston; Los Hernandez in Union Gap, Washington; and El Guero Canelo in Tucson, Arizona.
