Deputy: LaPlace teen accused of armed robbery, rape

LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - Deputies arrested a teenager for on suspicion of two armed robberies and a sexual assault on a 64-year-old woman in LaPlace.

Officers responded Monday to the 1500 block of Cartier Dr. in LaPlace around 8:55 p.m. in reference to an armed robbery. Once there, they learned a male subject wearing a black hoodie and grey "skinny" jeans approached the 21-year-old female victim as she was sitting in a vehicle in her garage.

As the automatic garage door was closing, the subject quickly walked under the door before it closed, deputies said.

The 16-year-old subject then opened the vehicle door, pointed a handgun to her head, and demanded money. The victim told officers as the subject grabbed her arm, she resisted him and was able to press the garage door remote button on the vehicle's sun visor.

As the garage door began to rise, the subject exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot towards a rear yard of another residence on Cartier Dr., over a fence to Meeker Loop and South Sugar Ridge.

About 30 minutes later, officers responded to a call in reference to an armed robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of Meeker Loop.

Officers said a male subject wearing a black jacket and grey "skinny" jeans approached the 64-year-old female victim as she was parked in her driveway, exiting her vehicle. The subject pointed a gun at her and demanded her wallet. He then forced the victim back into the vehicle where he sexually assaulted her, investigators said.

The suspect stole a computer tablet and cell phone, then ran away.

Officers developed the 16-year-old juvenile as the suspect and arrested him Tuesday.

After an investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant. During a search of his residence, they discovered the firearm allegedly used during the robberies, which was reported stolen in 2012 in St. John Parish. The computer tablet also was recovered.

The juvenile was booked with first-degree rape, possession of a stolen firearm, and two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. He was taken to the Terrebonne Juvenile Detention Center.

The juvenile also was arrested last October in connection to a robbery of a LaPlace residence, charged with two counts of theft of a firearm.
