NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police look for clues in a double homicide that claimed the life of a local teacher and a man believed to be her boyfriend. The crime was discovered in Gert town just off Palmetto Street Monday morning.
It was a grim scene outside the Cypress Trace Apartments as dozens of friends and family members gathered to try to make sense of the tragedy.
Family members tell FOX 8 that the discovery of 33-old-Jackie Williams and her boyfriend, whose name has not been released, was made by Williams' younger sister around 8 a.m. The sister was called out to check on Jackie after she failed to show up at work. Jackie's father, a local pastor, said Jackie was one of five children. Police said both victims were shot to death.
"This is what we found," said the Rev. Joshua Thomas. "They're both dead inside. I'm tore up inside. I really don't know what to do."
The family said Williams attended Delgado and SUNO and loved to teach.
"She had a degree and was working on another degree," said Gwen Thomas, the victim's mother.
Thomas said there was no sign of trouble between his daughter and the man she had been with for three or four years. The family did say there have been security issues at the apartment. A source said there was no sign of forced entry.
"I do hope they catch this person because a murderous heart does not see the kingdom of God," said Rev. Thomas.
The search for a suspect and information about what happened continues.
