Midway Elementary in Tangipahoa Parish releasing early

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Parish School officials will dismiss students at Midway Elementary at 11 a.m. Wednesday due to a damaged transformer on campus.

Midway Elementary is the only school impacted by this early dismissal, according to the release issued by the district.

Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Mark Kolwe said the district was informed less than an hour ago that power will have to be cut off to the campus so Entergy officials can repair the transformer.

The district's School Messenger service is contacting parents regarding the dismissal.

Kolwe said dismissal protocol will be as followed:

Students will be fed an early lunch before dismissal, and buses will run to bring students home. However, bus drivers have been instructed not to leave any student at a home where a parent or guardian is not on site to receive the child.

Students whose parents are unable to receive them at this early hour due to the emergency dismissal will be taken to Natalbany Elementary where they will be cared for until the end of the day, according to the news release.

Kolwe said classes should resume as normal Thursday.
