Houma man arrested for DWI, hitting police, officers say

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Police arrested a Houma man accused of driving drunk and striking officers with his vehicle as he tried to flee from police.

Sunday around 9 p.m., Houma police responded to the 800 block of Lee Avenue in reference a disturbance.

During the investigation, Lance Verdin, 38, of Patterson St., was seen sitting in a vehicle.

Once Verdin saw officers on scene, he started his vehicle and sped off in their direction nearly striking on scene police, investigators said.. At this point, officers attempted to apprehend Verdin and a pursuit ensued where he also struck a police unit.

Verdin eventually lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of 9th St. and Morrison Ave. where he got out of the vehicle and a short foot pursuit took place, police said.

Verdin was immediately taken into custody and arrested for two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated flight from an officer and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Verdin submitted to a breath test where he blew .159g%. He was also arrested for DWI, along with other traffic-related charges.
