Report: Former scout leader sentenced to 55 years in child sex case

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A former scout leader convicted of sexually abusing a child in his family and possessing child pornography was sentenced to 55 years in prison Thursday, according to a report by Nola.com | The Times-Picayune.

Dennis Mischler, 65, taught at Lusher Elementary and Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary.

A victim, who is now an adult, called him a monster during an impact statement, the report said.

Mischler was convicted Dec. 15 of molestation of a juvenile, two counts of oral sexual battery and 54 counts of possession of child. He was tried in St. Tammany Parish.

Mischler's attorney plans to appeal the conviction, according to the report.
