JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to hit a deputy with a car following a pursuit.

According to police, around 5:10 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 4100 block of Peters Road in Harvey on a call of a theft at a business. Responding officers were looking for the suspect's vehicle, identified as a grey Acura TL. A deputy found the vehicle near the intersection of Post Drive and Woodmere Boulevard and attempted to stop it.

The driver of the car, later identified as 32-year-old Bill Rumfield of Marrero, fled. Rumfield stopped the car on Alex Kornman Boulevard and police say that as the deputy approached the vehicle, Rumfield attempted to hit the deputy with the car. The deputy feared for his life and fired his weapon at the vehicle. Rumfield was able to get away and police do not know if he was injured.

If you have any information that could help locate Bill Rumfield, you are asked to call JPSO detective Kurt Zeagler of the Investigations Bureau at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
