Metairie dad whose baby died in hot car won't be prosecuted

GRETNA, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish district attorney won't prosecute a Metairie man whose 11-month-old daughter died after he left her in a hot car last August.

Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick issued the following statement:

After a thorough review of all available evidence, we have reached the conclusion that Mr. Li should not be prosecuted. This was a very tragic event, and we believe this is the fair and just result.

Sheng Li had intended to drop his daughter, Claire, off at daycare but apparently forgot she was in a child safety seat in the back seat as he headed to work. He didn't realize the mistake until hours later.

Authorities said the unresponsive baby was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital, where personnel were unable to resuscitate her.
