METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a man in the shooting death of his mother in Metairie, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Chad Mcavoy, 21, faces second-degree murder in the death of his mom, 42-year-old Connie Mcavoy.
Just after 3:30 p.m., JPSO deputies were called to a home in the 4800 block of Loveland Street, where they found the victim in a hallway suffering from a single gunshot wound. The initial call stated that the woman was believed to have committed suicide.
Chad Mcavoy was in the home with his father.
"Both the father and the son were on the scene, claimed it was a suicide at the time," said Sheriff Joe Lopinto.
As the investigation progressed, it became apparent that the victim had been murdered, Lopinto said.
Chad Mcavoy and his father were taken to the JPSO Investigations Bureau and interviewed about their possible involvement. Chad Mcavoy admitted to killing the victim and was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Investigators have not released a motive or any further information.
