NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Race horses shared the track with wiener dogs Saturday.
Forty eight dachshunds raced to the finish line at the Fairgrounds, competing in four preliminary heats.
Some of these pups traveled out of state to compete.
Organizers said this is all an effort to bring more families to the Fairgrounds.
Some owners say they got a dachshund after watching the event several years ago, and felt confident about the race.
"We are ready to win this race. She's going to take home the gold today, I hope," Brad Hester said.
Unfortunately, Dottie was beat out by Yatta, the reigning champ from Texas.
