(WVUE) - Pass rusher has  been called the Saints biggest need this offseason. Our No. 7 free agent may be the best available on the market, mainly because the great ones don't get to free agency.

His name is Trent Murphy, who enjoyed a breakout season in Washington in 2016 with nine sacks.

He followed that up with one his worst in 2017. He was suspended four games for testing positive for PED's, tore his ACL, and never played a down.

All of these could be reasons to stay away from Murphy. But at his position, it may lower his cost on the open market, which would make him a low risk signing.

The future of free agent Alex Okafor, who's recovering from a torn Achilles, is unknown. If the Saints don't re-sign him, they would only have the often injured Hau-oli Kikaha. Plus, unproven second-year pros Trey Hendrickson and Al-Quadin Muhammad opposite Cam Jordan.

Thus, there's a significant need at the position, one that Murphy can fill.
