NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers set to open the Bonnet Carre Spillway Thursday to prevent flooding due to the rising levels on the Mississippi River.

It will be the fourth time in eleven years the spillway has opened to reduce the water pressure on the levees located downstream.

The Carrollton gauge shows the river is at 14.81 feet Wednesday morning.

The Mississippi River is dealing with high water from heavy rains in the Ohio River Valley, Tennessee and Arkansas.

It is forecast to reach the technical flood stage of 17 feet six days from now.
