The New Orleans Saints had a formal interview with Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, a source told FOX 8 sports.
Vander Esch is viewed as one of top linebackers in this class. During his junior season at Boise State, Vander Esch had 141 tackles and four sacks. His ability in pass coverage has allowed him to shoot up draft boards. He had three interceptions and five pass breakups in 2017.
Measuring at 6'4 and 256 pounds, Vander Esch aced his Combine workouts by running a 4.6 forty-yard dash and was his group's top performer in vertical jump (39.5 inches), three cone drill, twenty-yard shuttle and sixty-yard shuttle.
Several mock drafts have Vander Esch going to the Saints at 27th.
