NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Blame the uptick in egg prices on last year's egg supply.
U.S. Department of Agriculture workers expect egg prices will have increased about 18 percent by the end of March 2018 compared to last year.
They note prices were unusually low last year because of record supply. Now, supply is back to normal. On top of that, demand is up because more people are eating eggs for protein.
While egg prices are rising, the USDA notes prices of beef, pork and chicken are down.
