NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department has identified a suspect in connection with a threat made against an area college.

The New Orleans Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Nicholas Heard Monday morning on a terrorizing charge.

Heard is accused of making direct threats to fellow students attending UNO and said that he would shoot several people on campus, according to NOPD.

NOPD VOWS officers arrested Heard shortly after announcing the warrant for his arrest.

The University of New Orleans canceled classes Monday until 5 p.m. due to the threats made against the school.

According to our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, Ben Franklin High School, which is located next to UNO, will also close on Monday.

Officials add that they do not want to risk the safety of the members of the school community, prompting the closure. They add that employees should not report to work until police determine that it is safe and students who live on campus should stay in their rooms. All entrances and exits on campus will be guarded by police.

Schools officials will continue to issue alerts with any possible changes or updates. Officials say that the safety of the students and employees is their top priority.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Third District detectives at 658-6030 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111 or toll free at 1-877-903-7867.

Anyone who needs to report emergencies to the UNO Police Department can do so by dialing 504-280-6666.
