Juan's World: Saints Show Brees the Money

Drew Brees ready for another postseason run. Drew Brees ready for another postseason run.
(WVUE) -

Welcome in to Juan's World and here's what I know.

Drew Brees is staying with the Saints, and I never had any doubts.

Well, that's not entirely true, but I was pretty confident because I was sold on what Brees has been saying for months. He wants to be a Saint for life.

The Saints, led by GM Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton, want that as well.

His new contract for two years and $50 million with $27 million guaranteed doesn't make him the highest paid QB in the league, but it puts him in the ball park and that's all that Brees wanted.

That 'window' isn't closed quite yet.

This signing pulls the blinds up on another run for a Super Bowl.

The pieces are there and all that was needed was the biggest piece to say 'I do.'

Brees' marriage to the Saints continues because he said 'I do.'

Now the question is, how will the Saints approach the draft? Will they use their first round pick on Brees' successor or has that need been pushed down the road again?

My guess is they'll wait to make that move and see if Taysom Hill or some other backup can fit the bill.

We will find out for sure when the draft rolls around next month. For now, let us rejoice because number nine has been given $50 million more reasons to keep calling New Orleans home.

Juan's World, Juan's World...Excellent!!!
