NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Sewerage & Water Board stopped a large water leak Monday evening after a private contractor at the Audubon Louisiana Nature Center in New Orleans East caused a major main break.

According to the report, a call came in around 6:15 p.m. that an 8-inch water main had been struck at the Nature Center.

An S&WB emergency crew stopped the leak in less than two hours, shutting off the water to keep it from flooding into adjacent Joe W. Brown Park, according to the news release issued by the department.

Joe Brown Park was closed Tuesday morning due to low water pressure. The restrooms at the Nature Center were also closed.

Residents can call 52-WATER to report any water outages.

The S&WB's emergency contractor, Wallace C. Drennan Inc., has taken over the repairs from the S&WB. The work is expected to be completed Tuesday.
