(WVUE) - For two months, Saints fans have been told that Drew Brees would be staying in New Orleans but as free agency neared and teams like the Vikings made their interest known, the tension built, which led to Tuesday's news that the franchise quarterback agreed to a 2-year deal to stay in the city he has come to call home.
Brees' 12 years in black and gold have been full of prolific offensive production and unprecedented playoff success but before him, Archie Manning was the lone iconic QB of the Saints. Manning said of Brees' re-signing, "It's going to be, there already is great anticipation for next year. To go into a season with a talented team, good on both sides of the ball, quarterback position is still very important and we have a great one, a Hall of Famer so it's exciting for the city."
Jim Henderson is recently retired from his duties as FOX 8 Saints Analyst and the Voice of the Saints but he sees Brees' career still having plenty of success left in it. "If this was a team going into next season without Drew Brees at quarterback, everybody would have been deflated. You can't just plug in those guys for the most part and expect to win. This is a team that should contend for a Super Bowl with Drew Brees."
