JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A Bonnabel High School student has been arrested for bringing a gun to school, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said Thursday morning the 17-year-old Bonnabel High School student was arrested for possession of a firearm on campus.

According to the report, campus police and school administrators learned that the student had been in possession of the firearm earlier in the week.

Public Information Officer Glen Boyd said school administrators detained the teen as he exited the school bus Thursday morning.

Once he was detained, a loaded small caliber revolver was found in his school bag, according to the report.

Boyd said the student was placed under arrest and transported to the Criminal Investigations Bureau for questioning.

School activities were not interrupted at the school, and classes are continuing as normal and the investigation into this matter will continue.
