NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The former Baton Rouge police officer who lost his job after he shot and killed a man on duty faces a new challenge.
Blane Salamoni must now grapple with a misdemeanor charge in connection with another incident that happened in 2016.
Salamoni's attorney says the former officer got a summons April 27 for a charge of simple battery. The summons is in connection with an incident that allegedly involved Salamoni slapping a suspect. Salamoni got the summons, despite the alleged victim's desire not to pursue charges.
Salamoni was not charged in connection with the death of Alton Sterling. He's appealing his firing from the Baton Rouge Police Department.
