Pelicans take relaxed, confident attitude into Game 2

OAKLAND, CA (WVUE) -

The Pelicans spent Sunday and Monday's practices not only tuning up their mistakes from game one, but trying to regain the rhythm they had in their first round series against the Trail Blazers.

The general consensus is that despite the lopsided score, they weren't too far from making it a completely different game.

"The looks were there," says Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday. "A corner three was wide open. I had a couple of bunnies at the basket that I missed and a pull up jump shot that was wide open at the top of the key. I know Anthony's been killing all season, even during the playoffs. He didn't make some of those. Some of those could be touch. Some of it could be whatever it is. But I think we came in here today and had a really good day."

You could almost argue that the Pelicans are too laid back going into game two, butt as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

One bad second quarter isn't enough to make them re-write the playbook and change up their approach entirely. Head Coach Alvin Gentry said his team's confidence remains high.

"Guys play their best basketball when they're loose and don't feel stress or attention, and that's where we're going to try to keep it," says Gentry. "We kept it that way when we won, and we're going to keep it that way in the loss that we have here. We're playing a great team. So we have to play at a real high level."

That means getting back to making the shots they were in the first round and being even more focused on the defensive end than they were against Portland, especially with Golden State's spark plug Steph Curry poised to make his postseason debut Monday.

Game two tips off Tuesday at 9:300 p.m. The series will then shift back to New Orleans for game three on Friday, and four on Sunday. Times for games five through seven, if necessary, have not been determined.
