THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - A woman was sitting on her bench in Thibodaux when a car traveling at a high speed slammed into her home.
The crash happened on Saturday around 2:14 a.m. in the 1000 block of Harrison St.
Officers say a 2004 Grey Chevrolet Impala, driven by Jacob Mire, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed before trying to turn from West 10th Street on to Harrison Street. As Jacob Mire turned the vehicle he struck the home of the victim.
Jacob Mire was heard mumbling obscenities before backing out and driving off. He drove to his home on Harrison St., police said.
Officers arrived and saw someone run away from the house, ignoring the Officer's command to stop. The person who ran was later discovered to be Joseph Mire, Jacob Mire's brother and front seat passenger during the alleged hit and run. Officers searched for Joseph Mire, but he was not found.
Jacob Mire appeared to be highly intoxicated and was brought to the Thibodaux Police Department. At the department, he was discovered to have a blood alcohol level of .259g%, officers said.
Jacob Mire was issued a misdemeanor summons for all of his charges, and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center for booking.
A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Joseph Mire after he refused to obey the Officer's command during the investigation. On Saturday night, a tip led officers to a daiquiris business in Thibodaux that Joseph Mire was at. He was placed under arrest.
Police did not report any injuries.
The brothers were arrested for:
- Jacob Mire (W/M, 23) was arrested for DWI (1st), Hit-&-Run, and Careless Operation.
- Joseph Mire (W/M, 24) was arrested for Resisting an Officer. He was released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on Sunday, April 29th, after posting his $1,000 bond.
