NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - State lawmakers use a vote to send students a signal they want to lower one requirement to qualify for TOPS scholarships.

A bill that would lower the ACT score requirement to 17 cleared the House Education Committee May 2. Students would need to maintain a 3.2 grade point average in the first two years of college.

New Orleans State Senator Wesley Bishop authored the SB380, calling for the change.

Next, the bill goes to the house floor.
