NOPD searching for suspect accused of robbing man in wheelchair

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public's help locating a man they believe robbed a man in a wheelchair.

Police say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. April 20 in the 3600 block of McArthur Drive.

According to investigators, the victim who is confined to a wheelchair was approached by a man from behind who began shouting obscenities at him. The suspect then struck the victim causing him to fall out of the wheelchair and onto the ground. The suspect removed items from the victim before fleeing the scene.

During the investigation, 43-year-old Darryl Smith was developed as the suspect in the incident and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Once arrested, Smith will be charged with simple robbery and simple battery.
