WASHINGTON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The murder trial for a North Shore man accused of kidnapping and murdering his ex-girlfriend begins Monday.

The St. Tammany sheriff's office said 35-year-old Jonathan Talley showed up at his parents' house with his three-year-old son in July of 2016 and told them he had just shot Aimee Kirst.

Deputies rushed to the house in Pearl River and found Kirst dead.

Kirst had a restraining order against Talley, and he had lost custody of their son previously.

He was arrested in 2015 for allegedly threatening her, and at one point, brought a gun to the friend's house where Kirst was staying at the time. That incident prompted the protective order, and Talley lost custody of their 3-year-old son.
