Man wanted for assault with metal pipe, NOPD says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is searching for a man wanted for assaulting someone with a metal pipe.

According to police, Jason Lacayo is wanted for the incident that happened in the 13000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

On May 3 around 4:30 p.m. the victim was in an argument with his girlfriend.

The girlfriend's cousin, later identified as Lacayo, intervened and reportedly struck the victim using a closed fist, according to the report.

The victim then attempted to flee the location on foot and saw the suspect armed with a metal pipe.

The suspect reportedly caught up to the victim and struck him in the back of the neck with the pipe, causing the victim to fall to the ground and lose consciousness, according to NOPD.

The report said the suspect then allegedly shattered the windshield of the victim's vehicle using the pipe before fleeing the area.

Once located, Lacayo will be arrested for aggravated second-degree battery and simple criminal damage to property.
