NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Jefferson Highway at Labarre Place is closed after an undercover narcotics investigation led to a police chase in Jefferson Parish, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said the pursuit happened on Jefferson Highway Thursday afternoon. He said the suspect, 22-year-old Keeven Robinson, struck two JPSO vehicles before abandoning his car.

Lopinto said a deputy was cut in the arm during a brief struggle.

Robinson was taken into custody, but began struggling with his breathing, according to Lopinto. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Lopinto said the suspect had a history with asthma.

The suspect was believed to have heroin on him and was being pursued through the undercover operation, according to Lopinto.
