NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Tours are back on at Mardi Gras World after barges smashed into the float den on the edge of the Mississippi River.
Monday night a group of six barges collided into the wharf after the tug pushing them lost steering.
The building that houses Mardi Gras World's floats, props, and design shops was damaged as well as some of the props.
The building itself suffered major structural damage, and some of the piers holding the wharf up were also broken.
Engineers spent the week trying to determine the best way to fix the structure, but in the meantime tours are back on.
Mardi Gras World owner Barry Kern said the collision shouldn't prevent the good times from rolling.
Kern is expected to give an update on the damage Friday morning in a news conference at 10:30 a.m.
