NOPD: Shooting in Gentilly leaves one man dead, teen injured

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating a shooting in Gentilly that left one man dead and a teenage girl injured. Officers were called to the scene Sunday at 5:19 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lafreniere Street.

According to police the male victim was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene. The female victim was transported to an area hospital with a graze wound to the leg.

Police add that the shooting took place near where a Mother's Day second line parade was ending.

"This afternoon, our officers were working a Mother's Day second line. As it was disbanding, gunshots came out about a block away from the disbanding area," said NOPD Third District Commander Jeff Walls. "(Officers) responded to the gunshots and we found a 30-year-old male. We also have a 15-year-old female who suffered a graze wound. She is at Children's Hospital being treated. She's in good condition."
