Man shot and killed in Luling, suspects arrested

LULING, LA (WVUE) - The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office says a man is dead and two brothers are in custody following a shooting in Luling.

Deputies say the incident happened just before 5 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Paul Fredrick Street.

According to investigators, 19-year-old Savahn Stewart was involved in a altercation with Leonard Celestine when Celestine allegedly shot Stewart. Stewart was taken to St. Charles Hospital where he later died.

During the investigation, it was learned that Celestine fled the scene in a vehicle. A detective responding to the scene observed a vehicle believed to be occupied by Celestine. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle on Interstate 310. Leonard Celestine and his brother who was passenger in the vehicle, Jerry Celestine, were both arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.

Leonard Celestine has been booked with second degree murder, principal to obstruction of justice and illegal carrying of weapon.
