LACOMBE, LA (WVUE) - Crews on the North Shore are battling a fire at the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. The fire was reported Wednesday evening at the refuge located in Lacombe.
According to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services spokesperson, officials believe the fire was caused by lightning, but the scene will be assessed once the fire is contained. As of Wednesday night, the fire is 10% contained. The total number of acres burned is unknown.
Officials say that nearby residents will experience smoke in the air until expected rainfall will help keep the fire suppressed.
